The recent announcement by the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has brought a sense of relief for the taxpayers in the nation. According to the notification, the CBDT has extended the deadline for the filing of various forms that come under the purview of Income Tax. It is aimed to help people file their taxes on time and make the process efficient in filing for Income Tax Return Online.

Why are the dates Extended?

The dates for filing the form under income tax were extended previously by the CBDT. With the huge traffic on the site for e-Filing, there were issues in connectivity and response. The lag in the process became difficult for taxpayers to file for the taxes. It was to avoid such a scenario that the dates for the filing were extended to make the process easier on the people.

In times like the pandemic, people are already stressed, and having a taxation process disturbed becomes a huge issue. The latest dates for the filing of the various forms are as follows:

  • Registration or approval under Section 10(23C), 12A, 35(1)(ii)/(iia)/(iii) or 80G of the Act in Form No 10A can be filed by March 312022 rather than August 31, 2021.

  • Registration or approval under Section 10(23C), 12A, or 80G of the Act in Form 10AB can be filed by March 31st, 2022 rather than February 28.

  • The Equalization Levy Statement in Form 1 of Financial Year 2020-21 can now be filed by December 31, 2021, rather than August 31, 2021.

  • The Quarterly statement in Form 15CC is to be filed by 30th November 2021 rather than15th July 2021 under Rule 37BB.

How does the extension in dates help?

The extension of the dates for filing of various forms like ITR, GST Returns etc online. The taxation of the salaried persons who are new to work has led to the increase in queries such as how to file ITR for salaried persons, When to file for ITR returns etc. All this has made the online payment process lag due to the sudden movement of large traffic on a certain website.

Conclusion

The extension of the dates for income tax-related filing by the CBDT has brought relief to the taxpayers who were struggling with the e-Filing. The lag in the website made the officials extend the dates to ease the pressure on the taxpayers in pandemic times. It has been well received by the public and highly appreciated.
