How to store Wine – Let FSSAI Guide You

FSSAI’s Guidelines for storing Alcoholic Beverages 

Food Safety and Standards (Alcoholic Beverages Standards) Regulation, 2018, has introduced regulations specifying the standards for Alcoholic beverages namely Distilled Alcoholic Beverage (Brandy, Country Liquor, Gin, Rum, Vodka and Whisky, Liquor or Alcoholic cordial), Wines and Beer. All the breweries, distilleries and small scale sellers need to be aware of the FSSAI norms. Here are some things you don’t want to miss:-

  1. Labelling requirements - are a declaration of alcohol content, labelling of standard drink, not to contain any nutritional information, no health claim, restriction on words ‘non-intoxicating’. Besides, there should be - 

                         (i) FSSAI Logo and License number; 

                       (ii) the Name and Address of the importer should be affixed as an additional not overlapping the original information of the label in any manner. 

                       (iii) Date of Expiry/Best Before should be written.

        2. There shall be a Statutory Warning Consumption of Alcohol is injurious to health, printed in the English language.

        3. Time – 6 months is allowed for storing unused labels and printed cans.

       4. An alcoholic beverage which contains more than 8.0 % alcohol by volume must not represent as a “low alcohol beverage.”

       5. The label containing more than 0.5% alcohol by volume must not include the words ‘non-intoxicating’ or names with similar meaning.

       6. No health claim shall be made on alcoholic beverages.
