FSSAI or Food Safety and Standards Authority of India is established in 2006 under the Food Safety and Standards Act by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India.

FSSAI Food Business Basic Registration 

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) is a legal authority that offers a food license to all Petty Food Manufacturer means any food manufacturer, who (a) manufactures or sells any article of food himself or a petty retailer, hawker, itinerant vendor or temporary stall holder; or distributes foods including in any religious or social gathering except a caterer. Every, Food Business Operators (FBO) in India must follow the rules and regulations of FSSAI for food quality control.

However, FBO requires an FSSAI License or Registration and it all depends upon certain factors like the size of the business, nature of food business activities, and range of operations. 

After, the FSSAI Basic Registration process, the FBO will get a 14 digit number that needs to be printed on food packages.FSSAI Registration ensures the security of food products and it is essentially a food safety certificate circulated by the food authority in India.

Documents Required for FSSAI Food Business Basic Registration

  1. Photo Identity of Promoters of the Food Business
  2. Proof of possession of premises (Rental Agreement / Utility Bill)
  3. Partnership Deed / Certificate of Incorporation / Articles of Association / Memorandum of Association
  4. List of food products manufactures or processed or stored
  5. Food safety management system plan
  6. Signed and Completed Form-B

Procedure for FSSAI Food Business Basic Registration

  • The FSSAI basic registration is for every petty food business operator. So, they can register themselves with the Registering Authority (RA) by submitting an application for the registration purpose along with a fee of Rs.100/-
  • Application in form-A has to be filed with a fee of Rs.100/-
  • You will get a unique application reference number.
  • After the completion of the above process, the Regulatory Authority may accept or reject the registration. While the reasons have to be recorded in writing within seven days of receipt of the application which has been registered by the food business operator.
  • If the proposal is accepted, the food business operator may start the business.
  • If required, the RA may issue a notice for inspection.
  • The inspection will be ordered to take place within seven days.
  • If the process of inspection is accepted, then the inspection will be done within 30 days.
  • After successful completion of the process, the registration can be taken forward, and the FBO may commence operating.
