When a license is granted as per FSSAI Regulations it becomes valid for a period of 1 to 5 years from the date of issuance of the license. Term validity of licenses depends on the fees you pay for a particular period as per your wish. Accordingly, the term period varies. Since the Food License for FBOs is limited, every FBO must Renew the FSSAI/FoSCoS Food License before the expiry period of registration to continue receiving the benefits of food license.

The application for license renewal is granted according to the regulations only if it is submitted at least 30 days prior to the expiry date mentioned in the license. Any renewal made after that period shall cost late fees of Rs 100 per day of delay. If a food business operator fails to apply for the renewal before the expiration time of the license, he has to apply for a fresh FSSAI Registration to continue with the business. The license will stay valid till the orders are passed on the renewal but not in a case when the application is made after 30 days from the expiry date of the certificate.

Procedure of FSSAI License Renewal

• The very first step of FSSAI License renewal is to file Form A (in case of Basic FSSAI Registration) or Form B (in case of Central or State FSSAI License) along with the signatures of the authorized signatory. These forms consist of the business activity of the food business operator which is filled with the self-attested declaration of compliance with Food Act guidelines. Also, an identity proof like Aadhaar Card, Voter Card or Driving License is also required to be attached.
• The renewal application should be accompanied by an audit report or Food Safety Management System or Food Safety Management Certificate.
• Form IX has to be filed as well in the format. This form is the nomination of persons by the company.
• The authorities examine the application after receiving it with all the essential documents. The authorities can also arrange an inspection of the business premises to make sure that the provided details are reliable and disclosed.
• Once the authorities are done with a successful and satisfactory inspection, they issue the food license in favour of the FBO.
• It does not take more than 60 days for the license to reach the food business operator. If the FBO does not receive the license even after 60 days, then he can resume his business and he does not require any further notice.
