Cricket Legend Sourav Ganguly & CEO Rajesh Kewat Share Their Inspiring Journey on Podcast with Raj Shamani

During the podcast with Raj Shamani, he asked Sourav Ganguly why he joined Online Legal India. Sourav Ganguly explained that in today’s world, compliances, GST rules, and income tax regulations keep changing regularly, making proper guidance extremely important for businesses and individuals. Raj Shamani then asked Mr. Rajesh Kewat about his inspiring journey from starting with only Rs. 1000 to building a multi-crore company with Sourav Ganguly as its brand ambassador.

Rajesh Kewat shared that he belongs to Dinhata, a small town in Cooch Behar, West Bengal. His journey started with selling leaflets on the streets for a computer center to bring students for admissions. Later, he worked in a call center and then got a job at an educational organization that posted him to St. Mary’s School in Cooch Behar. He worked there for more than five years as a teacher while also giving private tuitions, through which he started earning around Rs. 40,000 to Rs. 50,000 per month.

While working there, he heard about a closed factory that had shut down due to losses. Seeing an opportunity, he took the factory on lease and started a mineral water business. Slowly, the business started generating profit and his life was becoming stable.

However, life took a sudden turn after marriage. Rajesh Kewat shared that his wife came from a financially stronger family, and because of family complications, they had to leave Dinhata and move to Kolkata. With that move, he lost both the success he had built in his factory business and the stable teaching career he had worked hard for.
After coming to Kolkata, he again started from zero. He worked at Oxford for some time, but deep inside he always wanted to build something of his own. With only Rs. 1000 in hand, he decided to start again. He spent Rs. 500 on buying a domain from Wix and used the remaining Rs. 500 to market his platform himself. That was the beginning of his Online RTI application platform.
The platform quickly started receiving a positive response, and Rajesh Kewat realized there was much bigger potential in the online legal and compliance industry. He used to work from home while operating the platform, and when COVID arrived, his business gained an advantage because he was already working digitally before the world shifted online.

Later, many customers asked him why he was limiting himself only to RTI services and encouraged him to expand into other legal and compliance solutions. This idea eventually led to the creation and growth of Online Legal India.

Hearing his journey, Sourav Ganguly said that real success stories often begin with struggles and unexpected “shake-ups” in life. He added that difficult situations push people out of their comfort zones and help them create history. Sourav Ganguly compared Rajesh Kewat’s journey with cricket legends like Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag, saying that even great cricketers faced difficult phases before achieving success. In the same way, Rajesh Kewat also overcame hardships through hard work, innovation, patience, and an entrepreneurial mindset.

Speaking about ODR (Online Dispute Resolution), Rajesh Kewat explained that it is a modern way to solve civil disputes online through mediation and arbitration without going to court, helping people save both time and effort.

Towards the end of the conversation, Raj Shamani asked both guests about Kolkata. Sourav Ganguly proudly called Kolkata his city and said he could never imagine leaving the city where he was born and raised.

Rajesh Kewat shared that many people believe Kolkata does not offer enough opportunities for startups and businesses, but according to him, the city has huge potential. He encouraged entrepreneurs from Kolkata and outside the state to explore business opportunities here, saying Kolkata is cost-effective and well connected to international markets. He also emotionally mentioned how much he still misses Dinhata and its people.
